The Hagerman Bike and Walk Corporation was officially formed in the fall of 2016 and worked in partnership with Wood River RC&D as a 501c3. Hagerman Bike and Walk became a standalone 501c3 in 2019. The corporation is run by a board of volunteer members with assistance from the Hagerman Bike and Walk Committee. This is made up of many stakeholders; including residents, land owners, business owners, community boosters, elected officials, and land management agencies.
Hagerman Bike and Walk has played a vital roll in the successful completion of a nearly 3 mile loop of pathways from the City of Hagerman to the Billingsley Creek State Park. This also includes a kiosk with a Dero bike repair station at the Highway 30 rest area south of Hagerman. We have also installed a user kiosk at the Billingsley Creek State Park. It features a charging station, bike rack, Dero bike repair station, drinking fountain with bottle fill station and pet dish. Further designated routes have been specified for pathways incorporating existing local rural roads. The map showcases these routes and signs are planned for the future. We continue to pursue new projects and seek funding sources to help continue our work.
Goal 1: extend pathway from Thousands Springs State Park to Justice Grade
Just a little background...Hagerman Bike and Walk would like to extend the pathway along US Highway 30 from the Thousand Springs State Park to Justice Grade. This extension will allow continued pathway sections to be constructed up to the Malad Gorge at US 30 and eventually connect to River Road going into Bliss. In order to make this connection work, we need to cross US 30. The Idaho Transportation Dept has currently declined our request to have a crosswalk on US 30. They state we need to go over or under. There is a possibility of crossing under the existing US 30 bridge at Billingsley Creek. Flood and other hydrology studies need to be completed in order to see if that is a true possibility. There is possibly a commitment from Idaho Power to assist with matching funds to make this project happen if we can get that far.
Goal 2: extend pathway from East side of Billingsley Creek Campground to Billingsley Creek Wildlife Management Area
Goal 3: update signage along existing pathway
Add designated routes, share the road signage, and wayfaring signs on existing low traffic rural roads in the Hagerman area.
